ANDREW MIGHTY, BSc ECONOMICS (HONOURS), MSc ECONOMICS, PDE

SENIOR ECONOMIST

Andrew Mighty is an Economist with more than fifteen years’ experience in International trade, Economics Lecturing and Research. His experience spans advising Government Ministries, Departments, Agencies and tertiary educational institutions on a range of both economic and educational matters.

In 2012, Mr. Mighty joined the Anti-dumping and Subsidies Commission as the Senior Economist and an integral member of a multi-disciplinary technical team. He has lead responsibility for collecting, verifying and analysing qualitative and quantitative issues in investigations. These include and are not limited to injury to the domestic industry; dumping margins, the amount of duties, complex trade and financial data, prices, production, exchange rates, international trade statistics, international economic statistics; applying the analytical and policy framework for economic research in accordance with trade remedies rules, international law and economics. Mr. Mighty helps to implement and maintain best practices and procedures to conduct trade remedy investigations under the exacting rules of international trade; and performs general international economic trade research and analysis as called for. He reuses his background in education to enhance the delivery of instruction to industry enabling them to understand International Trade and to use Jamaica’s Trade Remedy regime.

Mr. Mighty has developed his expertise in trade remedies through international training which includes the World Trade Organisation (WTO) Regional Trade Policy Course (Pending, 2017); the WTO Regional Advanced Trade Negotiations Simulation Skills Course; and WTO e-learning courses on Trade Remedies and on the WTO.

Mr. Mighty has written and presented a number of scholarly papers including jointly authoring a chapter in “Financing the Expansion of Tertiary Education in Jamaica: Some Suggestions”, a book that was favourably peer reviewed. In 2011, he spearheaded the production by a group of colleagues of an Economics manual. His research interests include International Business Management, International Trade, International Competitiveness and Factor Productivity. He was at the forefront of developing initiatives to increase the student population within his department at the University of Technology, Jamaica. He served on the boards of the Faculty of Business and Management and the Faculty of Education and Liberal Studies. Prior to that, he was Chairman of the Faculty of Education and Liberal Studies’ Student Affairs Committee.

Mr. Mighty has been employed in many other capacities across several sectors which have allowed him to become functionally diverse with the attitude to learn and operate in any sphere of the organization. He has worked at the Jamaica Promotion Corporation in the capacity as Market Research Consultant, CARICOM Secretariat as Economic Consultant on a special project, Jamaica Racing Commission as Commissioner and was a member of the team evaluating bids for the divestment of the Caymanas Track Ltd.

Mr. Mighty holds a bachelor and Masters degrees in Economics from University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona which he attained in 1998 and 2000 respectively and a Post Graduate diploma in Education (PDE) from University of Technology (UTech), Jamaica in 2004.
